I think it is important for me to introduce you to a few people who have helped to liberate my mind. I am not sure they understand how much they have actually done for me, and ultimately, for my daughter. So, this April, for Autism Awareness/Acceptance Month (along with my own regular posts) I will be posting links to websites (or videos) that showcase these people and their words.
I think it’s vital that Autistics have a chance to tell their story. This is THEIR month. These are THEIR lives. This is THEIR conversation. They should dominate it. And, we, as allies, should help advance them.
But first, for today, I would like to show you a video.. It is called “Autism ‘Awareness’ – Ten Things You Should Know”. It was created by a young man with Asperger’s Syndrome, which is an Autism Spectrum Disorder. It is very short. It consists of five things that Autistics wished the rest of us knew about them and five ways to care for a person with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
