Today we went to the Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport, CT. Roger and I planned it last weekend. Mia has been talking about it all week. Mia has been reminding us numerous times a day. She could not wait for Sunday to come. She could not wait to be at the zoo.
Yesterday, when I picked her up from her weekly sleep over at her Mimi’s house one of the first things she said to me was, “We get the Mommy, go to get ice cream cones, and go to the zoo.” I had to explain to her, for the umpteenth time, that we were not going to the zoo until Sunday, which, lucky for her, was tomorrow. Ice cream cones were just an added bonus she threw in for good measure.
Fortunately, we made it through yesterday. Although, with quite a bit of discussion about animals; but luckily not much pushing for us to leave instantly. Mia understood that she had to go to sleep first before Sunday came and thus, the zoo.
Getting her to sleep was a bit difficult. Bed time was a bit of a problem. She laid there tossing and turning and laughing. Hysterically. She talked incessantly about the zoo. She was pumped. When she finally settled down enough to go to sleep it was already 10.
Thank G-d… or, maybe not… At 11:30 I heard the pitter-patter of little feet running down the halls. Yes, it was Mia. Yes, she was wide awake after only an hour and a half of sleep. I wouldn’t even call it a cat nap – it was that fast.
“We go to the zoo?” Those were the first words out of her mouth as she climbed into bed next to me. She was so excited sleep was not even an option. Well, at least not an option until around 3 a.m. when she finally gave in.
I bet you can guess what she woke up saying this morning. Yup. Bingo. “We go to the zoo?” Atleast this morning I could FINALLY reply with “Yes, Mia, today we go to the zoo.”
